In line with our ambitious expansion plans, we are actively seeking a talented Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join our dynamic team in Ghent. 

The past years, we have developed algorithms to turn large scale GPS location data into customer behavior analytics. We process around 100 GPS signals per person per day for a portion of the Western European population! We are looking for a motivated machine learning engineer to build and improve machine learning models on top of these data. In this position you will be working on our core technology and bringing this to the next level. If you are interested in Big Data, Econometrics and economics and have great mathematical skills that translate into a talent for developing well working algorithms, you might be exactly what we need.

As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer, you will take on following main responsibilities:

• Develop innovative machine learning algorithms in the field of customer behavior analysis from a variety of data sources.
• Bring these algorithms to production, and take care of quality monitoring
• Assist our consultants with advice and technical and economical expertise in how to adapt the algorithms in commercial projects.
• Under supervision of our Expert Data Scientist , become a modelling expert in retail turnover forecast models.
• Select appropriate datasets and data representation methods.
• Run machine learning tests and experiments.
• Perform statistical analysis and fine-tuning using test results.
• Train and retrain systems when necessary.
• Extend existing ML libraries and frameworks.
• Keep abreast of developments in the field.
• Understand the company’s goals and challenges and plan AI strategies
• Maintain our current data sets and automate maintenance as far as possible

What you need to be successful in the position

• Have a Master’s degree or PhD in economics, business engineering, computer science or other with a specialisation in data science or big data. A mathematical mindset and the understanding of economical concepts is a strong plus. 
• Have a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in AI or machine learning.
• Have experience with cloud-based data stores (Snowflake, Redshift or similar), SQL, PostgreSQL.
• Talk python (geopandas, jupiter notebooks, scikit-learn) in a robust manner
• Have experience in processing billion row sized data sets using cloud computing (apache spark, airflow).
• Are not afraid of diving into legacy code, and port it to today's standards.
• Commit to work, and get the job done.
• Work precisely and uphold a high-quality standard.
• You are fluent in English (Dutch is a strong plus) and are not afraid to talk to different stakeholders within or outside the company. You can easily adjust your communication style and translate technical jargon into understandable pieces of information.
• You are just as comfortable working autonomously as you are working in team and aligning all stakeholders.
