RetailSonar is going to Germany!

Our data scientists are busy behind the scenes preparing our German platform.

After Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and France, we are now creating our first solutions in Germany. Every time we add a new country to our platform, we start by collecting the right data.

“It is a process similar to solving a jigsaw puzzle,” says Mathias Versichele (Senior Data Scientist). “The end result is the sum of many small (data) parts.”

Open data sources form the basis of this data puzzle and immediately yield a wealth of socio-demographic information. For example, age, prosperity, income level, or family composition.”

“Our greatest challenge is that we require very detailed data to create our predictive sales & marketing models, but German data are usually only available at the municipal level. Moreover, a city such as Berlin with 3.5 million inhabitants is also treated as a single municipality. Over the past few weeks, we have invested a lot of time to gather the data to the smallest possible geographical level, using advanced methods. And successfully!”

“Very detailed data are essential to be able to create our predictive sales & marketing models.”

Needless to say, our data experts take extra care in ensuring the quality of the collected data. “After all, rubbish in is rubbish out. By creating our own framework, we can carry out quality checks and data updates very efficiently. This way, we are sure that our data are always reliable and fully up-to-date.”
