Fresh blood!

A strong grower like RetailSonar cannot do without a regular inflow of new RetailSonarites.

Obviously, there are a few minimum requirements: loving pretty data packages, enjoying a complex challenge and knowing the latest chart hits – and dance steps to go with it. But most of all, they must put their heart and soul into their task, which is to help our customers. Otherwise, no pasarán! Here are our latest fresh and lovely additions.

Maarten Bornauw (Business Development) is the sales miracle to whom we entrust all our dreams for the future. No pressure, right?

“Self-assured, results-oriented, active and enterprising, not the type to rest on his laurels, laughs to joke around.” That is how Maarten describes himself. “I like sales, but I also need an intellectual challenge to stay fascinated. I already worked with data in the past and I enjoy seeing how you can use these intelligently to achieve business objectives. RetailSonar does exactly that and I really like our modern and sophisticated services.”

“Before I went to work for RetailSonar, I spent four months travelling around Asia. The world is so big and there is so much to discover. I travelled to Cambodia, Thailand and Nepal. And because life is so good over here, I wanted to do more than just travel and have fun. In Cambodia, I taught English at a school for children from poor families. In Thailand, I took a Thai boxing training camp (one of passions!). In the mountains of Nepal, I helped rebuild a school that had crumbled during the big earthquake.”

“Other than that, I’m just an average boy, I swear. But if I had to have at least one strange occupation, I would probably make scale models of cathedrals with matches. Because they burn so nicely, right?”

Nico Van den Winckel (Front end Web developer) makes sure that every login in our tool is a pleasant experience.

“I was looking for a young, dynamic company where I could continue my technical development. I have two sons, which require a lot of attention, which is why I was searching for a company with a healthy work-life balance. I found all this and more at RetailSonar.” “If I evaluate myself on the Burghouts scale ( http://peggyburghouts.nl/insights/), I am someone with a strong preference for blue. Someone who often makes (mental) lists, who first needs a sufficient amount of information before being able to express an opinion and who likes to focus on everything quietly and tries to analyse everything as objectively as possible.”

“As a Frontend Web developer, I mainly focus on the usability of the various tools. I try to simply the job of the consultants, the back end developers and customers by developing intuitive screens that are easy to use. I pass on the data to the backend in the correct and most simple way so the backend developers can weave their magic. I also think about the product’s scalability.”

What does Nico like to do in his spare time? “I find washing cars relaxing. I like my music loud. In fact, I love metal. I like to unwind with a fun series or film on Netflix and over a nice kangaroo steak or a T-bone steak. Yum.”

Unfortunately Nico will have to hand in his nerd card: “I have not seen one single Star Wars film, sorry.”

Frederick Coene is our big data scientist, the man from whom we ask the impossible. And we always expect him to deliver!

“It is vital that RetailSonar can process, integrate and analyse large batches data quickly so these data can be transposed into insights that are used to make decisions. But that’s not all. I also work on a RetailSonar prototyping tool as a full stack developer.”

“RetailSonar is a young and dynamic company and I felt comfortable from the minute I walked through the door. The learning curve within the company is quite big. You get a lot of responsibility from the outset. My big passions are optimising code, discovering new machine learning techniques, predictive analytics and big data. So I am literally having a ball at RetailSonar. My dissertation also tied in with this job, as my research related to “Visual authentic real-time emotion recognition”, for which I used conventional neural networks.”

“I love sports and play volleyball in 2nd division in Diksmuide. I relax to rap music. The only dish that will have me running to the table? Spaghetti, no doubt about it!”
